reduce class sizes at ages 5 - 7 from 30 to 20 and at ages 7 - 11 to 25, give training, leading to qualification, to early-years workers and child minders, provide Children’s Centres offering integrated child-care and family services to under-fives, with at least 4 hours early education for 3 - 4 year-olds and provision for those who want it from 8am to 6pm. We will integrate vocational and academic learning, giving schools and FE colleges equal financial support. 16 to 19 year-olds in employment should have the right to study leave. School testing to be reduced, replacing the discredited OFSTED with an independent inspectorate.
We propose a single, open and fair admissions system across state funded schools;
children with special needs should have an environment suited to their needs and parents’ wishes must be considered. We will abolish university tuition fees, make maintenance grants of up to £2,000 to lower income students and encourage higher education institutions to design modular programmes so that students can carry credits from one course to another. |
